Noon - 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday
Including evening networking soiree A dynamic workshop for writers at our private loft in Paris. Develop your best work and strongest narrative voice. The weekend workshop is a condensed version of our 5-day conference Schedule, with a special focus on Point of View. In the dynamic Point of View workshop, writers are taken on an adventure, viewing the world through the various possible lenses of narrative, from first person, to close third person, and the impact of past, present and the illusive subjunctive tense--among other things. You will learn narrative techniques for eliminating distance between subject and object, creating a riveting and unique view of the world through your characters' eyes, and other methods for tightening up your pages to create a real page turner. |
Writers will be invited to read passages aloud from their work, and you will be given live exercises to try out the possibilities and make the most interesting choices. You will learn how great novelists and nonfiction writers pull it off. From the P.O.V. masters like Colum McCann, Paul Auster, Kirin Desai, Taiye Selasi, George Saunders, and Jennifer Egan, to the narrative nonfiction gurus Truman Capote, John Berendt, Tom Reiss and Tracy Kidder. You will also explore how Point of VIew impacts narrative voice. Register online, or call 1-646-845-9185 (U.S.) for more information. Go to the Testimonials page for reviews of the courses and workshops from numerous authors. See the guest artists page for a sampling of some of our accomplished guests. |
